Usui Sensei was born in Gifu, Japan on August 15, l865
He was 'initiated' into Reiki on Mt. Kurama, outside of Kyoto, and opened a Reiki healing clinic in Tokyo in April, 1922. He also created the Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakki, of which he was first President.
Usui Sensei died at Fukayama, Hiroshima, on March 9, 1926 of cerebral hemorrhage.
To this day, the Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakki is located in Tokyo, Japan. The sixth President was Mrs. Kimiko Koyama, who practiced Reiki for more than 75 years! When she passed away in 1999, Mr. Kondo took over the Presidency.
Dr. Usui's memorial is located at the Saihoji Temple in Tokyo.
